Chemeketa emerged victorious in game one with a narrow 1-0 win over Umpqua in what turned out to be a defensive showcase at Umpqua.
The game was characterized by excellent pitching and strong defensive plays from both sides, with Chemeketa managing to capitalize on one of their limited scoring opportunities. The only run of the game came in the second inning when Chemeketa's B. Hubble singled to left field, driving home J. Vaccaro from second base. This turned out to be the decisive play as it was the only scoring action throughout the nine innings.
Chemeketa's pitching staff put up a commendable performance, with T. Brenneman leading the charge. Brenneman pitched six innings, conceding only three hits and securing two strikeouts. Ja. Klee and L. Petty subsequently stepped in to maintain the lead, with Petty earning his fifth save of the season by closing the match in the ninth inning.
Despite their best efforts, Umpqua struggled offensively, Z. Bidwell was a standout for Umpqua, recording two of the team's four hits, including a double.
Game two saw Umpqua secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Chemeketa earning a split on the day.
Umpqua was led by pitcher T. Coffman, who delivered a stellar performance, pitching six scoreless innings and striking out 12 Chemeketa batters.
Offensively, Umpqua capitalized early, scoring all three of their runs in the first three innings. In the second inning, A. Metzker drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing P. Smith home for the first run. The momentum continued into the third inning when J. Robbins hit a clutch single to center field, driving in two more runs.
Chemeketa struggled to break through Umpqua's pitching, but were led by L. Kreisberg who managed to gather two hits, but the team could not convert opportunities into runs.
Chemeketa's W. Rose was the game two starter and gave up three runs in three innings, J. Bolstad provided relief with five innings of shutout pitching, to keep the game within striking distance.
