Storm Baseball Sweeps Roadrunners
Storm continues their win streak with resiliency and timely play.
The first game of the doubleheader was a thrilling matchup at Dick McClain Stadium, Chemeketa Community College secured a close 4-3 victory over Linn-Benton in a gripping afternoon baseball contest.
The action remained dormant early in the game as both teams held each other scoreless through the first two innings. Linn-Benton managed to break the stalemate in the third inning. B. Avery scored thanks to a sacrifice fly by K. Lindstrom, putting Linn-Benton on the board with an unearned run. They extended their lead in the fifth inning after B. Starr's double allowed L. Lea to score, and a subsequent error by Chemeketa, allowed Starr to cross home plate, and made it 3-0 in Linn-Benton's favor.
Chemeketa, however, had a swift response in the top of the sixth inning, igniting a rally that would eventually seal the game. The turning point came with a series of strategic hits and exploitation of Linn-Benton's defensive errors. L. Kreisberg's double scored E. Blackhawk, sparking Chemeketa's comeback. N. Crawford and W. Hooper also drove in runs, with Hooper capitalizing further on a first baseman error to bring B. Hubble home, tipping the score to 4-3 in Chemeketa's favor.
On the mound, Ja. Klee emerged as the backbone of Chemeketa's defense, pitching seven solid innings and allowing only one earned run, earning him the win. M. Eaton and L. Kreisberg took over pitching duties in the final two innings, successfully holding Linn-Benton scoreless for the rest of the game.
Game two saw Chemeketa edge out Linn-Benton in a dramatic 9-8 victory.
The game opened with a flurry of runs, setting the tone for a high-scoring encounter. Chemeketa broke the ice with L. Kreisberg's RBI single, bringing J. Genduso home. However, Linn-Benton swiftly responded with four runs in their half of the first inning. Key contributions included a K. Lindstrom RBI single and a 2-RBI single from E. Rolfe, rocketing them to a 4-1 lead.
Chemeketa fought back in the second inning, courtesy of Linn-Benton's defensive errors, that allowed E. Blackhawk to reach base and score a run, followed by J. Genduso's single to bring another runner home, closing the gap to 4-3.
Linn-Benton increased their lead in the bottom of second inning with A. Demianew's 2-RBI single, bringing the score to 6-3. Yet, in the third inning, Chemeketa's J. Vaccaro cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double, leveling the teams at 6-6. The visitors took their first lead in the fourth when N. Crawford's sacrifice fly allowed J. Genduso to tag up and score.
Linn-Benton tied it up again in the fifth as S. Giansante's single allowed J. Dodge to cross the plate, knotting the game at 7-7. The sixth inning saw Chemeketa once more pulling ahead, capitalizing on fielding errors with C. Leming and N. Crawford scoring unearned runs thanks to miscues at third and first base.
Linn-Benton threatened in the seventh with S. Giansante's RBI single, but their rally fell short as Chemeketa's J. Vaccaro threw out a runner at home for the third out to end the Linn-Benton comeback. A. Yost clinched the save for Cheemketa on the mound. J. Genduso, was one of the standout performer's for Chemeketa going 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs, while J. Vaccaro added three RBIs from his 2-for-4 performance.
This two game sweep couple with the previous two wins over Linn-Benton has put Chemeketa in contention for a playoff position going into their last 4 game series at SWOC on 5/9/25 & 5/10/25.
